By placing a bid on this auction, you agree to be bound by the TERMS AND CONDITIONS of sale. We encourage you to read them. 1. AS IS: You are placing bids on an auction. There are no reserves or minimum bids, and everything starts at just $2. All items are sold “AS IS”, “WHERE IS,” and “WITH ALL FAULTS”, in their condition at the time of sale without any warranties or guarantees, either expressed or implied including but not limited to warranties of title, possession, quiet enjoyment, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. 2. DESCRIPTION: We provide you with a brief description for each item, and photographs for you to look at online. As the bidder, it is your responsibility to either inspect or obtain a condition report for all items to determine age, condition, description and authenticity prior to placing any bid. No purchase shall be set aside, and Cannon’s Online Auctions, LLC. shall have no liability for, as a result of any errors in description, cataloging, mislabeling or imperfections of any item. In the unusual event of your item being either lost or damaged prior to pickup, your claim is limited to a full refund of the purchase price (plus fees and tax) only. 3. BUYERS PREMIUM and SALES TAX: A buyers premium of 18%, and VA sales tax of 6% will be added to all invoices. Exempt bidders should provide the necessary Virginia ST-10 form 4. CONDITION: By placing a bid, buyers acknowledge that they have either inspected the item or property in question, or obtained a satisfactory condition report from Cannon's Auctions. We recommend each item be examined thoroughly, to determine condition and whether or not items have been repaired, restored, or damaged. Most items described in the auction have come from estates and have, therefore, been subjected to extensive use. 6. AUCTION LOCATION, PREVIEW and PICKUP: It is very important that you take note of the location of this auction, and the dates and times allowed for pickup after the auction - you have to either collect yourself, send a friend, or call us to arrange shipping of your items during the given times specified. If your items are not collected from the sale location on the day and specific times allocated for pickup, they will be deemed abandoned, and both your payment and items will be forfeited and disposed without any refund or compensation. The items in this home were carefully curated by Jan and Frank Tullis over a lifetime of travel and adventure. Jan and Frank met in Kentucky when Jan was a nurse and Frank was a First Lieutenant in the Air Force. Frank’s military career allowed them to live in Europe and travel to Asia, while making homes at Air Bases from Miami to Washington DC. Even with all this travel, Frank and Jan were country people at heart and chose to retire in Virginia. They built their house in Williamsburg in the 90’s and made it a reflection of their lives. The rooms downstairs in this house are reminiscent of the time Frank spent in Thailand in the late 1960s, where he bought the teak living room, dining room and bedroom sets. He also brought back temple rubbings (which was legal at the time) that Jan framed for the living room. You cannot find these any longer as the Thai monks now forbid this type of activity. Their extensive time in Germany is evidenced by the steins, clocks, and figurines throughout the home. You will see an influence of their time living in Nags Head NC in one of the rooms. They incorporated the furniture their children used in their early years in the upstairs bedrooms, giving them a grown-up theme based on their children’s passions such as horseback riding and surfing. The china and glassware you see was collected not only by Frank and Jan but their children as they became word travelers themselves, exemplified by the Czech crystal liqueur glasses in the dining room cabinet plus the Tiffany and Co. Also, Jan was a collector of fine gold jewelry as you will see in this sale as well.
Finally, you will see how Frank and Jan embraced their hobbies in their retirement years in the form of golf memorabilia, Lladro and whimsical cat statues. They also supported local artists such as P. Buckley Moss, and those works are throughout the house. Jan was an avid supporter of animal shelters, while still being known as the neighborhood nurse. Frank could often be found on the back nine at the local course as well as serving in leadership positions in neighborhood committees. We are honored to be working with this family and we hope you will start a new collection with theirs. Preview: Wednesday 5/7 from 2 to 5pm by appointment only. Sign up for a preview appointment.
