There were 921 New Yorker convertibles manufactured in 1956. There are probably less than one hundred remaining today. This New Yorker was fairly well equipped when new. Included were power steering, brakes, windows, seats, Town and Country radio, dual outside mirrors and dash clock. Over the years it has picked up correct wire wheels, instant heater, power antenna, steering wheel clock, correct exhaust tips, new floor carpeting and custom chrome license plate frame.
Although originally intended as a high-performance driver, the chrome has since been re-plated and many enhancements added. Installed were additional features such as a signal seek radio, a Highway Hi-Fi, steering wheel clock and power antenna. The vinyl interior was replaced with the original all leather interior. The steering wheel was recast and the instrument panel painted in the correct colors. A new wiring harness and convertible top completed its final restoration, making this 1956 New Yorker one of the best examples of its kind in existence. The color combination of Cloud White over Stardust Blue is quite stunning and always attracts a great deal of attention. With only about one hundred survivors remaining, they are seldom seen, one reason why this automobile always earns prestigious awards whenever shown at Concours d’Elegance shows as well as being an AACA Senior Grand National winner.
This unique 1956 Chrysler New Yorker was transformed from a high performance driver into a high #1 car. Before this metamorphosis occurred, this rare auto was proudly displayed for over three years at the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich, New York, appearing in its Special Display entitled “Class of ‘56”. This car’s remarkable styling and features, along with the stunning color combination, not only garnered multiple Best of Show and People’s Choice Awards but achieved “cover girl” and “centerfold” status in leading car magazines. Cars & Parts Magazine featured this convertible on its cover, highlighting it in an article entitled “1956 Chrysler New Yorker – This Luxury Liner Raised the Bar”. It was prominently displayed at the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, and it received the prestigious Joseph P. Constantino Memorial Award for Best 1950-1959 Chrysler or Imperial at a WPC event. It also received AACA’s Bomgardner Award for Outstanding Restoration of the Year of a Post-1942 Automobile entered in each Fall Meet. More than just “eye candy” with loads of power, this convertible continues to attract large crowds whenever shown locally or nationally. CAR HAS BEEN EVALUTATED TO COST BETWEEN $210,000 - $225,000 IF INTERESTED PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US AT 1-910-443-9034 IT WILL BE A PRIVATE AUCTION - BIDDING STARTS AT $175,000 GET A GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY |
