The buildings where these contents are located will be demolished. Any items purchased must be removed no later than Wednesday, November 23rd. No holds or later pickups can be accommodated due to the construction schedule.
All items are sold “as-is, where-is”. I-35 staff will not be able to assist with loading. Please bring your own tools, ladders, carts and any help needed for removal and disassembly.
Heat in the buildings is turned off which may have damaged some plumbing items so keep this in mind when bidding.
Many items will need to be carried down outdoor stairways. All activities while on the premises are at your own risk. We are not responsible for accidents.
Connected electrical items which need to be removed: the buyer is solely responsible for assuring power is cut to the device being removed. If you don’t know what you’re doing, please do not bid on these items.
The public is invited to attend an open inspection November 19th 11am-2pm prior to bidding. Contents of the Hilltop Motel
Hilltop Motel was a "one-of-a-kind" vacation motel with 21 colorful and uniquely decorated theme rooms located in one of Iowa's most popular lake resort towns, Clear Lake.
Why is the Hilltop closed? Developers and the city, with support from the state, are undertaking an ambitious redesign of the area surrounding the historic Surf Ballroom. The Surf is an iconic rock 'n roll destination known worldwide as the site of the final performance by Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the J.P. Richardson, aka "Big Bopper" February 2, 1959. All three, including a local pilot, were killed when their small plan crashed in a field north of Clear Lake.
One of the improvements planned is a new hotel near the Surf. To make way for this construction, demolition of the Hilltop Motel is planned. I-35 Auctions was chosen to conduct the closing auction for the motel contents. Since the buildings are being demolished, winners may take not only the typical contents (decor, furniture, supplies & equipment) but also various fixtures, installed items, etc.
