About the Estate of Rae and Bill Choma, Drovers East Antiques

Fueled by a passion for history, Rae Choma founded her antiques business in the early 1960’s. Originally named Rae Choma, Antiques for the Carriage Trade, the name was quickly changed to Drovers East Antiques, which was a nod to her family history. Rae’s ancestors were “drovers” who brought the first short horned cattle to the US from Scotland.

Rae was a very well known, successful Antiques dealer in the Detroit Metro area for over 40 years. At the height of her career, everyone knew “Rae”.   No last name needed ! She was well known for her beautiful displays of antique dolls at antique shows, and her dolls won many awards at antique doll shows. Rae also specialized in beautiful, high quality antique jewelry and art glass. She had the most beautiful booth displays at almost every mall antique show (they were very popular in the 70’s-90’s), and she was usually the show’s designated appraiser. She also displayed and appraised at shows at the Michigan State Fairgrounds, St. John’s Church, the Light Guard Armory, and the Novi Expo Center, just to name a few.

In addition to antique shows, Rae was a sought after (certified)appraiser and lecturer. She was a featured lecturer at Greenfield Village, and was a director for the National Association of Dealers in Antiques (NADA). She was also featured in the Detroit Free Press Magazine section in the late 1960’s.

In addition to the regular “estate sale” of 58 years of household merchandise, this sale is full of the remaining eclectic collection of antiques from Drovers East Antiques.
