Listing Information

Artist Lilli Lonngren (Anders), Painter, Collector & Art Historian is leaving her beloved home and selling her collections.

Lilli is a graduate of the HS of Music and Arts in Manhattan, Queens College, NYU Institute of Fine Arts and the Sorbonne in Paris, winning many awards and scholarships including a Fulbright Grand and election to Phi Beta Kappa.  She spent over 50 years as a much loved Professor of Art at Wagner College.

During the 1950's & 60's Lilli was a part of the New York art scene and worked as a lecturer at both the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim.  While working as a research assistant at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a conversation with the museum's famous director Alfred H. Barr Jr. revealed that they were both interested in Frantisek Kupka, a Czech painter, pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement; in Barr's opinion he was probably the world's first abstract painter.

In 1955 Lilli received a Fulbright Grant to study and document the life and work of Kupka whose work is featured in museums worldwide including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art in New York.  Lilli's collection of works given to her by Kupka is on permanent exhibit at the Museum Kampa in Prague, Czech Republic as The Lilli Lonngren Anders Collection.

As her collection reflects, Lilli has lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe, North Africa, Russia and the Far East, but she has also collected works of friends and colleagues including Bennett Bean, Diana Morris, Emil Antonucci and Arthur Lonngren (her father).

Lilli has always described her work as "non-figurative abstract."  Her early works drew inspiration from the broad view of landscapes: a wave or a mountain.  As she matured, her work became antithetical to the cubism of Kupka and her unique style developed where color flows across the surface organically.  These later works, her "Continuous Flux" paintings are fluid, diaphanous, oils on masonite, influenced by what one might see under a microscope.  Lilli also created works on paper in charcoal, graphite, pen & ink.

Through the 1970's and 80's, Lilli continued to paint and exhibit her work as well as write, edit and review for Art New and Art View.  Lilli's work is in both corporate and private collection.

The photos will provide the flavor of Lilli's Art & Pottery but also her incredible flair and style in her Home Décor, Bric-a-Brac and Clothing.  The scale of her Art will take your breath away.

There are (5) authentic Herman Miller Chairs, (2) Marcel Breuer Wassily Chairs & (8) Mies van der Rohe Mr Chairs, a pair of Large Stainless Steel End Tables (can be used as Coffee Tables) & more Mid-Century Furniture, a stunning Empire Couch, Organ, Dressers & Accent Pieces, some Electronics, amazing Books & Magazines (lots of Art but other genre as well), vintage & modern Dinnerware Sets, lots of Kitchen & Household Bric-a-Brac, a COOL vintage Tappen Wall Oven/Stove and a Nutone in wall Stereo System with Phonograph, lots of Art Supplies, vintage Fabric, Linens & Sewing, vintage Women's Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, Brassware, Planters, Tools, an Aluminum Patio Set, a Char-Broil Grill, some  Jewelry and so much more interesting and unique items.....
