The Estate of Vladimir Sokolov... This famous Laguna Beach artist recently passed away and we have been entrusted by the heirs to sell some of Sokolov's original works as well as some other Mid Century artists works, including sculptures. The Sokolov gallery was part of the Laguna Beach art scene for over 35 years. The following are excerpts from a recent bio. Vladimir was born in the former Yugoslavia in 1932, and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Belgrade. He immigrated to the United States in 1966, where he married his wife Lillian. They moved to Southern California in 1967. He then opened his first art gallery in Laguna Beach, Studio Gallery Six, in the Lumberyard Plaza. He later moved the gallery to South Laguna, and renamed it Vladimir Sokolov Gallery, where it remained open until 2018. Vladimir’s artwork was known for its ever-evolving styles, ranging from acrylic paintings to large mixed media collages. His early works were primarily. He was a regular exhibitor at the annual Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach, and was well known in the local art circles Just uploaded the first round of photos..Wow! What a fantastic sale. After speaking with the family it appears that the works we are selling were never cataloged or marketed for sale, rather they were Sokolov’s earliest and favorite works he kept in his home to enjoy with his wife and family...The early works signed by the artist are Abstract Expressionism nature with a Surrealist bent... we have works of al sizes from small 4x6 card size works to very large 30”x30” plus In size. As is frequently the case with most artists they also collect/trade works with utter artists and contemporaries. Vladimir Sokolov is no exception. When you attend the sale, you will also see works by Vasa, Dordevic Miodrag ( a prominent Yugoslavian abstract artist,) Kostaj Gatnik, and others. The extensive library is filled with artist’s books, art books, art reference books and more. As are all of our sales, this will sale will be by appointment.
