GREENHOUSES:  The newer greenhouses were installed by rough Brothers in the 60’s and are galvanized steel and aluminum.  All need re-skinning with energy-efficient coverings.  Natural gas is piped to all the greenhouses which are heated with forced-air unit heater.  A water well and pump system provides ample irrigation water.  Some of the pre-1929 greenhouses have been abandoned.  Most of the greenhouses are outfitted with raised benches filled with growing medium that had been used for cut flower production and which are also adaptable to greenhouse vegetable culture.  10,000 sf of greenhouses were last used for a spring bedding plant program.
