HISTORIC  COLLECTOR'S  AUCTION

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3RD, 10:00 AM, 325 SECOND STREET ST. MARYS WV.

For those out of the area, St. Marys is a small town on the Ohio River between Parkersburg and Wheeling. We can be approached easily from the North or South on WV Route 2; or on Ohio Route 7 via our bridge at Newport. Second Street is our main street one block off the Route 2 four-lane toward the river.

Jean King is moving from her second home in Canaan Valley back to the family home in Jackson County. She is dfownsizing three generations of furnishings and personal property including antique and vintage glassware, furniture, dolls, artwork, china, pottery & more. sale will also contain Christmas decorations and assorted items held from previous sale . This looks like a great sale for collectors, investors, or fine home decorators.

AUCETIONEER UPDATE: 10/30/18 As usual (apparently), I am behind on the listing of individual items. Please refer to the photo gallery for information. I feel compelled to say something about the dining room suit. Dutches County (Hudson River valley N.Y.) is famous world wide for the quality furniture made there. Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and historically populated by Dutch & Amish settlers. The craftsmanship exibited by the custom makers and later factories is unequaled. I like Heywood Wakefield furniture based on its quality of construction. I feel that this exceeds it. This set is of traditional design to function nicely in an open kitchen/dining plan or formal dining area. It is solid Walnut (not Maple), finished in a light to medium hue. If you want something for hard use that will still look nice 20 years from now, come to the sale: look at it, touch it; feel it; Buy it.

Before detailed listing, some general information may be of interest. THE HORSE shown in the lead pictures is a hand carving made for the sellers Mother many years ago by an artist friend now deceased. It was meant to be General George Custers horse "Comanche".  Comancne was one of the few survivors of the "Little Bighorne" raid. The artist also carved the General who sat astride the horse, but over the many years of play and display, the General became lost, broken or both. However, like the real Comanche, this beautifully carved horse with hand made accessories survived time and circumstances to be sold at auction. This sale has a larger percentage of nice COLLECTIBLE GLASSWARE than we have sold for some time. Fenton, of course is collected nationally, and this sale has some of the nicer (more sought after) pieces. I have seen real increased interest in Blenko glass among local collectors with prices to reflect it. Founded originally in 1893 (Indiana), the company is now located in Milton WV. They produced many beautiful and unique pieces, some reminiscent of Tyiffany and Stuben. We have at least 4 pieces of vintage Blenko in the sale. I had to contact the company to authenticate one very large floor vase because I could find no examples of it offered for sale on-line. There are around 100 pieces of CRYSTAL GLASSWARE ( cut-pressed, pattern etc.) likely dating from the late 1800's to mid-century. THE DOLLS!! I am not a doll expert. This lady collected and acquired dolls for her own enjoyment over many years. She built the two doll houses and displayed them with accessories such as her Grandmother's child's tea set from Japan. The Grace Putnam looks like 1930's or 40's, the little Bylo probasbly mid century, "Gone with the Winds's from the 1980's, Shirley Temple "Dress-up" still with box and scads of clothes plus the official steamer trunk. The two large Native Americans look like they were never out of the box. As for the 4 old hand carved jointed dolls pictured in the suitcase?? I haven't got a clue. They are very interesting. All the rest of the porcelin/china dolls could range from early to past mid-century.

Most of the doll clothing is exquisite. Regardless of vintage I can say this without reservation. Virtually everything in this sale was "top of the line" when purchased, and well cared-for thereafter.

Terms of Sale: Cash or check with good ID.

Auctioneer: R. James (Jim) Buck WV #271

Announcements day of sale take precedence over previous printed or stated information.
