Whiteford Auctions is honored to present part 2 of the distinguished estate of General John William Vessey Jr., the tenth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to President Ronald Reagan. 4 Star General John William Vessey Jr was a native Minnesota, born in Minneapolis in 1922. In 1939, he joined the Minnesota National Guard and was assigned to the 34th Infantry Division. His unit was activated in 1941, in anticipation of U.S. participation in World War II. General Vessey went on to serve honorably and bravely in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His life of service to the military was justly rewarded when in 1982, General Vessey became the tenth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the last World War II combat veteran to serve in the position. A Minnesota bill was just passed to Honor this 4 Star General by making June 29th “General John Vessey Day". Not all items in the estate were General Vessey’s, some were from the family. The 1971 Jeep was not from the Vessey estate however was from another military veteran.
