Mr. Foley, an ardent fan of thorough-bred racing, a dedicated art collector, but first and foremost a lover of the English Language, started in advertising as a writer. He moved into top management to head McCann-Erickson, the largest component of Interpublic. Interpublic, a publicly held holding company made up of 200 offices in 50 countries. At that time it was the largest company of its kind, as it was when Mr. Foley retired as Chief Executive in 1979. In that year Interpublic became the first advertising company to post 1 Billion in billings in one year.
